How To Be A Ben Franklin Reenactor

By Tanisha Berg

A lot of historical reenactments are performed to teach the people about historical events. These reenactments present the incidents and what happened during that time. The people who play the characters involved in these events are typically the reason why these presentations are successful.

Historical figures are also commonly reenacted. A Ben Franklin reenactor is a good example. The person playing the part looks like Benjamin Franklin as well as talks like him. He also acts as if he is the real Benjamin Franklin. There are certainly other roles that can be portrayed such as soldiers, medieval princesses, war doctors, and others.

Becoming a reenactor is one of the hobbies many people enjoy. Most of them want to become a part of the reenactments commonly called as living histories. There are several things that a person interested in it should be considering.

Any individual can be a reenactor. They could be ranging from the elderly to even little kids. However, the roles given to the children are pretty much limited. For the older generation, they could land a part of being a war veteran.

It is of great importance that an individual is healthy and in good condition physically, especially if he will be a part of a civil war reenactment. This type of presentation requires him to play an active role. Because civil war reenactments are done in open fields, changes in weather may affect his health. It may be raining at one point and very hot in another. He should also be prepared to live his life without technology as he will be depicting the past.

It will also be a good thing if a reenactor has a group of friends that share the same passion and the same hobby that he has. He will be able to ask for their opinion if he is displaying the correct persona of the person he is reenacting. Aside from that, they may also know other people who are into this hobby and they can share their historical knowledge with each other.

The actor should be prepared financially. This is because he will be wearing the same clothes that the character he is depicting was wearing. These costumes are usually expensive and only several stores has stocks for this. It would be good if he knows other reenactors who can help him with the costumes. Most of them are willing to give a helping hand if they realize that the person also has the same hobby as them. An extensive research should be done on the costumes by the actor so that he will portray the character realistically.

Aside from the clothes, the actor should also have his kit ready. His kit would usually include items that are commonly attributed to being used by the character he is personifying. For Franklin, the kit would usually include a cane, an umbrella, and maybe a pair of eyeglasses.

When he already has the necessary things set, he will then have the chance to be part of a living history. Aside from that, he will also be gaining additional understanding of history from these events. Reenactments are truly serious yet fun events.
