Exploring The World Of School Music Festivals

By Paulette Short

Musical concerts are known and appreciated by many for their entertainment value. This is one of the primary reasons for their inclusion in many youth based events. Many of these events however, also function as the starting point for fruitful and gratifying careers. This is why school music festivals are used by many institutions to motivate, educate and inspire students.

Music-based events are great for enhancing the social lives of patrons. They get to meet others who share similar interests and interact in an environment that is way less formal than a classroom. This is why such events take on way more significance for institutions assigned the task of grooming the youth. They help to fulfill one of the roles of such an institution which is to prepare the students for induction into the adult world.

Institutions of learning are also good for developing the hidden talents in students. This is why concerts like these are so important. They allow teachers to identify the talents in their students. After identifying the talents, specialist teachers can work on sharpening and improving them so that the students can benefit from their natural abilities.

Like many similar events, musical concerts are sometimes planned around a theme. This means that the genre of music as well as the message delivered is uniformed. For some such events though, there is no identifiable theme and all genres of musical entertainment are used. Regardless of the structure of the entertainment patrons are bound to find something that appeals to their needs and tastes.

While there are many social benefits to be derived from these events there are financial benefits as well. Fund-raising is an activity that is synonymous with schools around the world. Educational institutions use fundraisers as a means of acquiring additional funds to support their budgets. Music-based concerts are often used for this purpose.

In cases where the event is being used as a fundraiser, it is typically planned and coordinated by key stakeholders within the education sector. These include members of the teaching staff, administrative personnel, parents and students. Quite often, the task is carried out by a team comprising members from each of the groups.

Another way to make money through such an event is to perform competitively. This means entering contests where musical talent is showcased. Competitions of this nature are put on regionally nationally and globally. There are usually cash or kind prizes awarded to competitors especially those who place in the top three ranks of the competition.

Musical entertainment has been enhancing the lives of human beings for centuries. The impact has only gotten greater with the passage of time. Today, students around the world are thriving through the benefits of school music festivals. Their lives are being enhanced academically and socially and they are essentially being groomed for a world of creativity.
