Select Truly Authentic Luau Entertainers

By Myrtle Cash

Perhaps one of the most favored party styles of all time is that of the Polynesian variety. With many options in music, food, dances and colors, this theme is as perfect for a child's birthday as it is for a huge corporate event. It is all about choosing the right decorations and finding the best luau entertainers in order to create a flavorful event.

From the first moment to the last, a luau is chocked full of excitement and energy. One may choose to keep it in its simplest form for a children's gathering or go whole hog, so to speak, for a truly authentic experience. The overall tone of the party is easily set by choosing the right food, decorations and entertainment.

The ambiance of Polynesia can be set by the combination of decor and food, including things like bamboo, coconuts, palm trees, tropical fruits and teriyaki flavored meats. Welcoming each person with a brightly colored lei as they arrive is a traditional Hawaiian form of greeting that can set the tone for the whole affair. Entertainment is important and there are plenty of options to choose from in order to get the right feel.

When most people think of a luau, the first thing that comes to mind is the Hula girl. These beautiful ladies can gracefully perform the many enchanting dances of the Pacific Islands of Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti and even New Zealand. Whether watching a single entertainer or a large group of them, the audience is sure to have their attention captivated.

A small budget or intimate gathering may be best served by hiring just a single dancer who can use recorded music to perform her various acts. If one is able to go with a group as large as four, the guests can be treated to costume changes as well as an impression of how beautifully synchronized the dances are. For the full on authentic experience, employing a full troupe will provide about ten entertainers with a wide variety of offerings as well as live musicians.

The island warrior dancers and brave fire-knife artists are other popular choices for luaus. Wearing traditional garb and sporting tribal markings on their muscled arms, these guys are guaranteed to thrill the masses. It is pretty hard for an audience to ignore the thrill generated by knives that are set aflame and flying through the air.

The entertainers who perform the flaming poi pot dance of the Maori of New Zealand are also sure to get many favorable responses from the crowd. The balls that are attached to strings and set on fire are twirled in varied designs, leaving light trails behind them that are truly beautiful to behold. This act is so thrilling that it is often used as the final act of the evening so that everyone leaves with a great feeling.

Audiences are sure to be thrilled whether watching a single dancer or being entranced by a whole troupe of luau entertainers. Though these types are parties are great for the daytime, more can be achieved by having it last into the evening hours, especially if one is planning to use fire acts. When choosing to use to plan a complete extravaganza, check with local authorities to obtain any insurances or permits that may be required.
