Introducing Cubensis And Other LA Cover Bands

By Stacey Burt

When one thinks of a musical line-up doing covers, people think of groups like the Beatles, the Grateful Dead, and Pink Floyd. Some of the biggest groups in musical history are now being covered by LA Cover bands. In fact, many even tour as the original line-ups did back in the day. Although, there are really two aspects to these new line-ups, music, and tribute.

Many of which play a variety of songs from different bands and eras. While there are other groups like Dark Star Orchestra, and Lez Zeppelin who are considered more tribute band(s, ) smaller line-ups are often far more popular in local areas. Unlike local bands, tribute bands often tour nationally and internationally on a regular basis.

Dark Star Orchestra is a cover band dedicated to all things Grateful Dead. In the beginning, the band only played live show. The fans created somewhat of a contest always trying to guess what show the band would cover next. While Knight Ryder, Pot Roast and others play great cuts from the Grateful Dead but also cover a wide range of other artists and titles.

When deciding whether to hire a cover, or tribute band, it is important to realize that tribute bands are most often going to have the highest fees and guarantees. These fee increases are most often added because of the extra work that goes into setting up such an elaborate performance.

Musicians who play music from different line-ups on the other hand often work for tips. At times, there are situations in which performers can request a percentage of the bar, and cover charge. These solo performers, duos and smaller groups often play a wide variety of music of past and present. Whether Los Angeles, Nashville, New York or other areas in which live music is popular, using a listing service to find live entertainment is often the quickest way to do so.

When most people think of groups which play covers, it does not always mean the band is dedicated to playing songs by only one group. In fact, most of these groups play a wide variety of music from different bands and eras. As such, there is generally one which can appeal to at least one individual and demographic.

Others like The Hightailers and Knight Ryder often have regular bookings at local clubs and restaurants. Knight Ryder is a local group that performs a wide range of hits from the 80s. The Hightailers, a gulf-coast rock and roll band has been playing every Thursday at one of Houston's most historic Mexican restaurant and music venues. As with Houston, Los Angeles also has an active live music scene while most people tend to think of it more as a film, and recording studio paradise.

When a group lives and works in Los Angeles, the sky is often the limit when it comes to finding a gig. For people seeking to book live entertainment, this is not always the case. A new website called GigMasters hopes to remedy this issue. After which, it will be far easier for bands and booking agents to connect, whether online or over the phone.
