Some Piano Instruction For Starters

By Sonya Riley

There is hardly anyone who doesn't enjoy good music. Whether it's the catchy rhythms or the touching melodies, music really brings people together. Music is listened all over the world by the old and the young, the rich and the poor, the happy and the mourning. One simply can't find a culture that doesn't know music. If you have dreamed about joining the large group of music-makers, you are reading the right text. These easy piano instruction will help you get started!

Taking lessons is not a bad idea. In fact they are quite necessary if you dream about becoming a true master. In many areas there are special music schools that provides lessons. There are both public and private of them, but you might need to pass a test to get in. It sounds scary, but the judges are usually really encouraging and friendly. And to make that clear: you don't need to be an experienced musician. Just a little singing or a simple piece with some instrument will do the trick.

Besides music schools there is plenty of private teachers. The best way to find teachers around your neighborhood is to do some research online, read local newspaper and ask family and friends if they know someone. Private teacher should be as good or even better choice than one in a music school. If the teacher is nice, you can make the plans for your lessons together. Nevertheless, there is multiple ways to learn online without an actual teacher. You just have to know the basics first.

A big surprise: there are just seven different white keys in your instrument. The others are just the same sound in various octaves. Octaves is what the whole notation system is based on. They always start and end with the same key, for example C-major: C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C. The different C:s etc., have all their own names, but you usually hear people just talking about 'higher' or 'lower' keys.

In the middle-section of your instrument is the C-major you'll be using the most in the beginning. C, which is a white key can be easily found by focusing on the black keys. There are two black keys together, then a gap, then three together and a gap again. Then the system goes all over again. C is always the white key, that touches the 'group of two' on the left side. It's followed by D, E, F, G, A, B and C again, all on the white keys.

Get ready to play your first song: mark the keys from C to G with letters or colors. Use some paper and tape to do this, it's not a grand idea to draw on your instrument. When you are ready, use your right hand to play: E D C D E E E D D D E G G, take a small break and continue: E D C D E E E D D E D C.

If you are having troubles with that, you can try marking the keys differently. Use your favorite funny pictures, animals, logos, anything you can imagine. Using your imagination makes the learning not only twice as fun, but also easier.

If you managed to play the song, you noticed that it was 'Mary had a little lamb'. These piano instruction helped you to get started, now keep up practicing and some day you will be a true artist. Video-tutorials and other useful material can be easily found on the net.
