Tips On How To Feed Before The Day Of Dance Competitions

By Roger Sanders

Many dancers are not sure of what they should eat during the day of the competition. Being careful on what you eat on this day is very important. However, it is also important to keep in mind that proper hydration and fueling begins with daily nutrition. Proper feeding is not only important on the day of competition. You need to check your nutrition a week before the big day because this is when you will spend most of the time practicing and rehearsing, and you will also have a lot of anxiety. Showing up for dance competitions depleted from an exhausting week of practicing is detrimental.

For you to maintain discipline in your feeding, you should start by coming up with a plan. Take a book and a pen and draw a timetable that will help you know the type and amount of food you should eat on daily basis. Keep this book close to monitor your feeding behavior and to ensure that you are feeding right.

It is also important to get prepared. Ensure that the food you include in your plan is easily accessible. In case there is new type of food you would want to include in your list, avoid including it on the last day. Consider trying new meals a week before the big day. You would not want to go to the competition with stomach upsets.

You should also get to understand your body. For many people, anxiety about the awaiting performance may make it challenging for them to eat. You need to come up with a plan that you are confident of. Remember that everything starts in the mind.

You should also avoid eating in a hurry. Being anxious or in a hurry may make dancers feed very fast. This may lead to poor chewing of the food or you may have gas due to swallowing excessive air. You will not want to suffer from indigestion or bloating. Have enough time to eat your meals slowly and mindfully.

You should also remember to hydrate your body in the right way. Being hydrated in the right way will ensure that you perform optimally. If you are dehydrated, you may suffer from muscle cramping, headaches, nausea, and lack of energy. If you feel thirsty, it is an indication of dehydration. You should however avoid taking too much water few hours before the competition.

You should be careful when eating out as this may alter your feeding plan. It is better to pack your food every time to ensure that you feed healthy. However, in case you forget packing, choose foods that are in line with your plan. You should also avoid testing new good out of curiosity.

Also, remember that sleep is important. Experts recommend that one should have at least eight hours of quality sleep. In case you like taking stimulants such as caffeine, and energy drinks that may hinder proper sleep, avoid them. This will ensure you sleep well.
