Tips For Choosing A Purebred Bulldogs For Sale

By Edna Booker

Many people have different accounts about dogs. There are those who know them as fierce animals and those who see them as gentle pets. The truth is that they are both. Therefore, before you approach a breeder to buy one, you should know whether you need a pet or a security dog. This will ensure that you get the right breed for your needs. With that in mind, a few guidelines have been discussed below to help you select the best purebred bulldogs for sale.

The most obvious sign of identifying a breed is the coat, so start with that. Check if the coat is short, because it should be if the dog is pedigree. It should also be straight, smooth, and even. If you detect any roughness, then you could be buying a crossbreed. Run your fingertips across the coat to test it. You should get a smooth texture that is relatively flat.

Ensure that the animal has the temperament of a pedigree. It should not be too aggressive or too docile. Being a stocky, short-nosed dog, it loves attention, perhaps, a bit too much than other related breeds. Nevertheless, this is what makes it stand out as a pet. It can be gentle to children and still be a good companion for adults. It can also live comfortably with other pets.

Before you buy the dog, ensure that the puppies are socialized and raised around pets and kids. This breed, however, has strong signs of separation anxiety. This is the type of nervousness the animal experiences when it is separated from the owner for a long time. You can easily identify this characteristic if the dog barks, howls, and cries a lot when it has been left alone for some time.

The bulldog can be a very gentle dog if it grows up in such an environment. Hence, it has a dominating characteristic, which can only be tamed best by a firm handler. With proper training, it is a very loving dog that serves well as a pet.

You need to understand the care requirements of the dog. Like every pet, it requires regular grooming. A soft rubber brush will do just fine in removing the broken or dead hair. You just need to comb the coat gently. You should also bath it occasionally, as it shreds fur averagely. A damp washcloth should be used to wipe under the skin fold and for cleaning the mouth.

As a new owner, one of the challenges you will face is understanding he health needs of the dog. You should be on the lookout for any change in behavior. Call the vet if you notice anything suspicious.

Get the health history of the puppy when you are buying it. This will help you know what medications it has received and what else needs to be given. Ensure that it has been vaccinated and dewormed. Ask for the pedigree cataloging as well.

A good breeder will also give you a brochure or a document that contains the care requirements. Remember that a puppy is just like a toddler: if you do not take proper care of it, it will face major health challenges and might even die. Once you have it, remember to exercise it regularly.
