Stories About Life Beyond Death

By Georgia Diaz

Ever since the earliest days of mankind, people have wondered about life beyond death. This is probably one of the most thought provoking and controversial questions. It is also something that many people try to avoid thinking about until the very end of their lives. Death is something that will happen to everyone, sooner or later. Thinking about what will happen afterwards is an essential part of human nature.

It is a sobering thought but each day on earth some eighty thousand people die. Some were old, tired and ready to go, but others were young and in the prime of their lives. They may not have been ready to leave and their lives ended suddenly and tragically. Before they knew what was happening they were facing the greatest journey of the existence.

From a religious perspective there is a clear idea of what will happen to a person after they die. In the Christian faith those believers are absolutely sure that they will reside in heaven with God for eternity. They are often comforted by the thought that they will see their loved ones who died before them. This strong conviction has helped many people get through difficult times.

The idea of the divine consciousness makes a lot of sense. It presents the view that humans are really part of something much bigger than they can ever imagine. The divine consciousness has no form yet enormous power. It cannot be seen, but it is in everyone. We are all a part of it and if we choose to look can see it in ourselves and others.

Religion has a lot to say about what happens to a person after they die. In the Christian teachings only those who have accepted Jesus as their savior will be allowed into heaven. There they will live in eternal life with God and those who have already passed on ahead of them. Many people find great comfort in the thought that they will be reunited with their beloved family members.

Maybe it is because of the struggles that we all face each day to stay alive, happy and healthy that interest in another realm is so popular. People are naturally drawn to the idea that there is another place where life is so much easier. We will not need food or water, clothing or shelter. We will not be burdened by negative emotions or wounded by pain. Instead we will experience perfect bliss and never have to deal with discomfort again.

Some people have put forward the idea that our earthly lives are only a trial run for what is to follow. Once we cross over to the other side we will understand what we have been missing. Our human lives will seem shallow, trivial and pointless. They were merely a preparation for the more important after life. Becoming part of the great ultimate universe is far more important that working nine to five on earth.

When someone dies it may not be the end, in fact it may actually be just the beginning. Ideas about life beyond death are pervasive in practically every society. After all death is perhaps the only thing we all share in common.
