Is there going to be a sequel to The Inbetweeners Movie?

By Joey Felltrup

Following the success of Channel 4's The Inbetweeners, the names Will, Simon, Jay and Neil became synonymous with college lad-culture. Their failed attempts at wooing the ladies and competing with their peers had us laughing constantly from 2008 to 2010 on the TV, before they decided to release an equally mortifying yet hilarious film, The Inbetweeners Movie, in 2011.

But the question on any Inbetweener fan is, are they going to release a sequel to the Inbetweeners film? As it stands, the co-writer over at The Inbetweeners HQ, Iain Morris, has neither panned nor confirmed a sequel, although he has admitted that, due to the demand, he and the other writers would consider filming a second one to please their fans.

In September 2011, an 'unknown source' revealed to The Daily Mirror that the bosses on the show had confirmed there was to be a second film. They went onto explain that a second film was much more viable than a fourth series because the characters were getting older.

But Iain Morris, co-writer and co-creator of The Inbetweeners, quickly quashed rumours by Tweeting 'honestly, we haven't even talked about it. it's our first day in today. i've been drunk for a month.' To further address the rumours, he then went on to Tweet to Blake Harrison (who plays Neil Sutherland in the show) that 'you're not in it. we've filmed it. an 'insider' from 'the studio' told me', drawing attention to the ludicrous nature of the reports.

So at the time of writing, it remains that a sequel has neither been confirmed nor denied, although the writers and actors have not dismissed the idea altogether. More recently in November last year, the writers Iain and Damon Beesley claimed that if they do make a second movie (rumours are that it would centre on one of the character's stag do), that it wouldn't be driven by cash and would only be made if they thought it would be any good.
