Do You Know How To Sing From Your Diaphragm

By Pamela C Smith

It is important for you to learn how to sing from your diaphragm. You must learn the proper way to breathe so that you will vocalize the right way so that you will sound good and not strain vocal box. If you refuse to be taught proper breathing techniques you will never vocalize properly.

If you only breathe through the throat you will end up with short breaths and will not be able to hit the high notes. You have to know how to breathe with the stomach in order to vocalize properly and sustain notes longer. If you vocalize only with the throat you will strain the voice and you will begin to miss the many notes.

You might be asking what you need to do to start breathing correctly. The first step is to begin aerobic training in order to strengthen your breathing muscles. If you are overweight you will limit singing capability so you need to be in top physical condition.

If you smoke tobacco you need to stop. Smoking is one way to kill one's singing ability because the tar will accumulate in the throat and lungs and will limit the amount of air you can draw in and limit singing capability. Do not drink a lot of alcohol because alcohol has a negative affect on the vocal cords. Alcohol also affects the blood supply to the vocal cords in a negative way.

Protect the singing voice by staying out of the cold and away from cold drafts. Do not go around shouting because shouting damages delicate voice muscles over time. Warm up before using the voice because you can injure voice muscles that are not properly warmed up.

Most people use a limited amount of their lung ability. If you want to have complete use of the ability you were born with then learn to use the complete lung capacity given you. One way to increase lung capacity is to vocalize with the diaphragm.

Have you learned how to sing from your diaphragm? If you want to sing to the fullest ability you have to practice proper breathing techniques so that you do not damage the vocal cords. If you have not learned to breathe right you are not hitting the high notes and are not reaching the potential available to you. Get in shape with aerobic exercise because it will help you breathe properly. Guard the vocal cords against shouting and bad weather and make sure you warm up before singing.
