Brighten Your Smile With Cosmetic Dentists Scottsdale

By Tamika Armstrong

Modern dentistry can seemingly work miracles. Not too many years ago, people expected to gradually lose all their teeth, and those with stained or misshapen smiles often simply lived with them. Today, however, painless and affordable solutions to most routine work are widely available. Cosmetic dentists Scottsdale routinely whiten, straighten, reshape or cover up the imperfections that can ruin your smile.

Tooth whitening is the most common aesthetic dental procedure. Nearly all adults experience the staining that can come from drinking coffee or tea, smoking, or from other food sources. While whiteners are available over the counter today, the best results still come from the dentist's office. An impression of the teeth is taken, and upper and lower teeth trays are created from that mold.

Those trays are filled with bleaching agents, and worn for a number of hours, depending on how much whitening is needed. While the process begins in the office, most patients continue treatment in the privacy of their own homes. For most people, the ugly stains will disappear, leaving them with a much more attractive smile. Some, however, have stains that will not bleach away, and many of them select tooth veneers.

A veneer covers the entire surface of a tooth with porcelain or composites, and are attached directly to teeth. They not only cover stains, but often are used to hide instances of mildly misaligned front teeth. Veneers are excellent for reshaping badly formed teeth, hiding cracks, chips, and other undesirable features. They last for a decade or more, and can be created in conjunction with dental bonding.

Another option is dental bonding, a procedure often utilized when there are large gaps between teeth, or when portions of a healthy tooth are chipped off. The dentist pre-treats the area, and then works with a modern composite-based tooth resin to build up the missing area. Often, the finished product is laser-hardened, and when finished is nearly indistinguishable from the real thing.

Bridges and crowns are part of normal dental work, but can become cosmetic in nature when they affect the front teeth. A new crown can not only strengthen an existing tooth, but also is carefully color coordinated to appear almost absolutely normal. For those with missing front teeth, modern bridgework is also designed to be nearly undetectable, and can make full dentures unnecessary.

When long-term correction is needed to fix crooked teeth, cosmetic dentists Scottsdale also work with braces. In cases where gum disease has taken a severe toll, the surrounding area can be built back up, and in instances where there is too much of the gums covering the teeth, the tissue can be reduced. With such a wide variety of treatments available today, there is no reason to live with the kind of personal distress that can be caused by misshapen, stained or missing teeth.
