How To Make A Rap Song Like A Top Lyricist

By Grady Johnson

Writing your own rap songs can be hugely rewarding. Mixing sounds and samples in a music maker program allows you to create the perfect instrumental for your lyrics.

Put your ideas on paper

You should keep a lyrics journal like all serious rap musicians. This is a notebook where you write all your rap ideas so that they are kept in one place.

Keep a second journal to write down your personal goals on becoming a better rap artist. People who write down their goals on paper have a much better chance of achieving them than those who do not take the time to write down their goals.

Write every day

Writing rap lyrics every day is a fundamental key to a rap producer's success. It doesn't matter if you have writer's block or if you make mistakes. The important thing is to try. Studies show that if you do something for 21 days in a row then it becomes a natural habit. This means, after writing rap songs for 21 days in a row, it will be more natural for you to write rap lyrics.

Study other musicians

Pick some of your favorite rap artists and take some time to study their song lyrics. Studying other people's lyrics helps to get the creative juices going. Eventually, you will understand the formula for writing great rap songs.

Make a 4 step structure

Every rap song has a general 4 step structure. It is the intro, verse, hook and outro. Follow this 4 step form to make your song flow the right way.

Be original

Add your own personality to make a rap song stand out from the songs of other artists. The best way to accomplish this is by writing a song about a unique experience you perhaps had. Don't be shy about writing about personal experiences. Adding your own style to an otherwise generic structure will make your song unique and memorable.
