How To Create Landscape Abstract Paintings

By Brenda Davis

The most important lesson an emerging artist or painter can learn is that while you can use a model, it is not necessary to paint exactly what one sees. For example, when it comes to Landscape Abstract Paintings, there are many variables one can use to make the art more creative. In some cases, this may be using animated features. In others, it can be to paint in a way which leaves a great deal of interpretation to the viewer.

The content in this genre is often inspired by an idea, object or landscape. In most cases, painters painting these type of paintings work with acrylics, oils and color mixing. While this is the case, there are also those whom are considered abstract artists whom create 3D and mixed-media pieces.

Modern artists often find inspiration in different areas. Some of these include, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, prose, real life, landscapes and objects. In most cases, the outcome is often a piece leaving viewers to question the meaning behind the inspiration. For, there is often nothing an art lover loves more than to contemplate and interpret the meaning behind a piece of abstract art.

While there are classes in abstract painting such as those provided by Brian Ryder, individuals can also simply pick up a brush and start painting. Although, when it comes to painting abstract landscapes from a view, it can often be more difficult. As such, these classes can often help provide the various techniques in order to do so.

For more experienced painters, advanced classes are often the best option. Whereas, those new to the process will most likely want to check out classes such as Beyond Realism which focuses on the attitudes, composition, methods, moods and attitudes which can be expressed in the genre. In one such course, students and teacher work side by side to create a painting of bright colored poppies which pop with bright colors and varied shapes.

In most classes, the teacher will provide information on how to use layering to create paintings in this genre. Layering is a method used in conjunction with various shapes and colors. Whether training on YouTube or attending a class, it is essential that students pay attention and do the work as instructed. Once having taken a video course, those looking to study on a long-term basis can find a number of free offerings on the Coursera and edX websites.

The Artists Network website provides a great deal of information on these classes as well as a full length video, reviews and materials list for creating paintings in this genre. In addition, there are also definitions and examples of various styles. For example, wet-into-wet and wet-on dry. Individuals can also learn how to choose the most workable landscapes and models.

The actual process of painting an abstract piece can either be done very quickly, or take years to complete. Artists often use a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and under-paintings to develop the abstractness of a piece. As such, the more creative an individual can be when creating this type of painting, often the more interest the piece will garner from curators, galleries, museums and buyers.
