Austin Summer Drawing Classes Benefits Kids In All Kinds Of Ways

By Elizabeth Ellis

Well before the end of the school year most parents are planning summer activities for their kids. They know it won't take long before children start complaining they don't have anything to do. You may not be able to organize every day of their vacation, but you can enroll them in some camps that are actually affordable. In addition to fun, Austin summer drawing classes, for example, have long term positive benefits.

A lot of the kids who take art classes have no particular talent for it. They often have to be convinced that participating in an art class will be fun. If kids give the class a chance, they pretty quickly come to the realization that this is one place where they can't fail. Each drawing is specific to them and is perfect in its own right. Kids are free to express themselves, problem solve, and think creatively. To do this they will need both sides of their brains.

Good art teachers use creativity to bolster self-esteem in their young students. They know creating artworks increases dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is a motivator. It helps kids stay focused and makes them more able to concentrate. This, in turn, allows them to resist distractions in order to achieve their goals. When your child brings home a piece of art, you should find a conspicuous place to hang it where it can be admired by everyone who passes by. You will give your child the gift of self-worth and a sense of accomplishment.

Art has academic benefits for the kids who get involved in it. It increases attention spans, improves IQ and fluid intelligence, and develops brain flexibility. Music is another art form that improves academic performance. Studies have shown significant improvement in math, language and reading. Both art forms increase blood flow to the brain.

Most people would not think that art and good health were interconnected, but they are. Many therapists encourage young patients with chronic illnesses and degenerative diseases to put their thoughts and feelings into a picture. This helps them maintain their identity and gives them a sense of accomplishment. It reduces cortisol, which is a stress hormone.

Art reduces stress for healthy kids too. It distracts the brain and allows it a chance to relax. Art can create a zone of concentration, as anyone who has become immersed in a painting or drawing can attest to. This is one of the ways art and meditation are similar.

Art is therapeutic for kids who are troubled. There are camps, run by dedicated professionals, that focus on improving the physical, emotional, and mental health of children through the acts of painting, drawing, and sculpting. Learning disabilities can improve as well.

Some kids spend the summer playing electronic games, texting, and on social media. A little this may be fine, but too much is detrimental and non-productive. You might have to convince your child that a drawing class will be fun, but once into it, most learn just how cool it really is.
