With telephones replacing them in the 1960's they became obsolete fast, So the only telegrams that were being delivered from then on were way more humorous and done in person as opposed to how they were delivered before.
There are many places in the modern world that offer this service. No longer delivered over the telephone it has turned into more of a theatrical act. The messenger often dresses up in some kind of costume that is relevant to the message that is being delivered and delivers it personally. Although there are other options.
