Indulge Your Artistic Side With Abstract Watercolor Painting

By Eliza Mendoza

There is something invigorating about getting in touch with your artistic side and whether you have any natural talent or not, paintings will help you to understand a little more about your personality. Abstract watercolor painting can be whatever you want it to be, whether you are a collector or an artist yourself, so why not embrace it.

Working with watercolors is a very satisfying experience. To begin with it can seem so simple and it really is one of the most satisfying mediums to work with. However, the true talent only appears after years of practice as the individual needs to get to grips with his or her own style, ability and the natural way that the paint flows.

Watercolor landscapes are a great place to start and can be quickly mastered. By layering up the colors the artist can keep perfecting the piece until they are completely happy with it. Mistakes are a rarity with watercolors as they are so easy to coverup. Studying the work of famous artists who have focused on landscapes is a good way to learn new techniques.

Animals can often be a difficult task for the novice watercolor artist as they typically attempt to recreate the finer details of the animal. While this can look wonderful, it is not the natural style that these paints lend themselves to and a more fluid style is often more effective. Artists should focus on the lines of the animals and try to recreate the natural movement within their own image.

The portrait is where the water color artist really comes into his or her own. Playing with colors and the contours of the face is one way to really get to know a person's look and the individual's style will naturally come out in this type of piece. However, practice is essential. At first it can look a little childlike but with time the paint strokes will become more professional and expressive.

Abstract is much more than simply blurring the lines and letting the imagination do the rest of the work. It is about redefining the style and letting the imagination construct something new and unique. This allows the admirer of the piece of artwork to explore their preconceptions of the topic or subject. This is not something that just anyone can create.

Ultimately a good painting will mean something different to every person who studies it. Everyone brings their own experiences to a painting, whether they are observing, collecting or painting it and abstract painting truly embraces this. By learning the basic rules and styles of watercolor, the talented artist can learn to bend these rules to conform with their personal needs and visions.

Abstract watercolor painting is a beautiful art form and one that many people come to appreciate without even realizing. Stunning paintings of this style can be found everywhere and they are a marvelous source of inspiration. Painting in this style is also a wonderful way to understand objects in a much more meaningful manner.
